Named the "Best Little Town in the Midwest: in a 1997 Chicago Tribune travel series, Bayfield is one of Wisconsin's gems. A historic fishing village located on the southwestern shores of Lake Superior, the city is filled with impressive 19th century architecture, including many grand homes that belonged to famous folks at the turn of the century - many buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bayfield is the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, comprised of 21 islands and 12 miles of unspoiled peninsula shoreline. Visitors may enjoy an afternoon ferry trip to Madeline Island, the largest of the Apostle Islands with a historical museum and park. Check with the Keeper of the Light, a marvelous lighthouse and nautical shop on the bay, for information about touring area lighthouses! |

The nature of the people in Bayfield is represented by a family with a beautiful home in a prime location overlooking the town and bay. In a lovely garden at the front of their home, they generously invite all to stay a while and enjoy the fabulous view. |
