By visiting the Rock of Ages 600-foot-deep quarry and nearby manufacturing plant, you can get a new appreciation for the skill and workmanship involved in extracting, cutting and polishing the granite that is used in our buildings, statues, grave markers and other places we see every day. If you happen to be at the quarry about 3 pm on a weekday, you can watch the workers being lifted up from the various levels where they have been working. A derrick drops a long cable into the quarry and hoists the "cages" the workers ride in, up to the edge. Quite a sight to see! |
