Floating Bridge

As the story goes, in 1820 the townspeople of Brookfield, who had enjoyed the efficient travel across sunset lake provided by the ice in the winter, created a bridge of logs to use in the summer. The logs were replaced each year until 1884 when a bridge was devised using tarred barrels that floated on the water. In 1978 the wooden barrels were replaced with plastic containers filled with styrofoam.
Though driving across the bridge in the summer may be fun, be sure to watch for those who are fishing, swimming and doing cannonballs off the rails.  According to a local resident, you may be able to enjoy the splash of the cannonballs just by driving across with your windows down!
