Cannonsburgh

photos by UnCommonDays.com

Since Murfreesboro's original name was Cannonsburgh, it seems appropriate that this collection of buildings in downtown Murfreesboro should again pay tribute to Minos Cannon, a prominent early settler. The buildings were moved to this site from all over the Mid-South as part of a Government funded project to serve communities and preserve heritage. Particularly notable is the 2000 galloon red cedar bucket which was made in Murfreesboro in 1887, found in a Georgia amusement park in 1975 and brought to Cannonsburgh where it represents the industrial past of the area.
