The Neihardt Center celebrates the life and literary achievements of John G. Neihardt, one of America's most notable poets and journalists. Mr. Neihardt is probably best known for his close association and love for the Native American people. This Center honors that closeness with great respect. His most well-known work, Black Elk Speaks, came from his interviews with Oglala Sioux Holy Man Nicholas Black Elk and shows the great friendship that was between these men of different races and cultures. The Sacred Hoop Prayer Garden gives the visitor a wonderful place to think about the timeless message of the Sacred Hoop, described and depicted in the Center. |
