Portland Head Light

This, the oldest lighthouse in Maine, was built under George Washington's administration in 1791. It is said that American Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote many lines of his poems while sitting at his favorite spot near the base of this tower. Maybe this was one: "Sit in reverie and watch the changing color of the waves that break upon the idle seashore of the mind."
