| In the North Maine Woods, Pittston Farm Lodge is located where the north and south branches of the Penobscot River meet. Once the main camp and farm for Great Northern's lumber operations, this place is most uncommon! Accommodations are available in the lodge, cabins, carriage houses and there's a campground. The flower and vegetable gardens are beautiful and functional in the summer. In winter, this is a haven for snowmobilers - off road only! Enjoy many other outdoor activities in this remote location . . . hiking, deer and moose sighting, kayaking, canoeing, cross country skiing, fishing and ice fishing. The farm is in a "working forest" where lumbering is ongoing and large, heavy trucks loaded with logs move rapidly on the unpaved roads. A toll is charged (varies with duration of stay, destination and purpose) to enter the private forest, bicycles are not allowed (safety issue due to trucks on dusty roads) and the logging roads can be rough on the automobile. Be prepared for the roads and enjoy the friendly people, the lovely farm, delicious eats and outdoor activities! |
