What:
Since 1851, visitors
have gathered in the lovely little town of Fryeburg to see and learn about
all kinds of livestock (over 3,000 large animals are present!) while visiting with
friends, eating the traditional “fair food”, and enjoying games,
races, musical shows and other types of entertainment.
It seems this fair doesn’t miss a thing . . . highlighting the
activities of those who make their living in agriculture, husbandry,
forestry and the lumber industry, operating large equipment, making
crafts, growing Christmas Trees, producing dairy products,
and many others. There are
popular contests where skills are exhibited and winners are rewarded with
trophies and the cheers of an appreciative crowd.
If you’ve never seen a skillet throw, the fireman’s muster or a
sheep dog trial (our personal favorite), this is the place to be in
October!
If you are visiting from metropolitan areas, you'll need to give up the fast
paced life and be ready to sit in the long lines of traffic that meander
through the beautiful valleys, beside
the fresh mountain streams and past the quaint New England farms.
Enjoy it all!
