Although several states boast a place with this name, this one is refreshingly “untouristy”. Instead of peering into roped off rooms you will be able to walk through a building that holds many of the furnishings that have been in it since the early 1800’s. Ever wonder about the expression “sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite”? After listening to the guide’s explanation of tightening a rope bed and just who slept in these beds you’ll not only understand that expression but possibly have a better appreciation for modern day conveniences and some societal norms! In addition to the buildings, be sure to see the enormous, old Crepe Myrtles and American Holly tree that stands 62 ft high. The step back into history this place allows is well worth the extra few minutes it may take to get there. You may be the only one(s) there . . . wouldn’t that be a pleasant surprise?!
